This animation represents the reproductive cycle of a fern (Pteridophyte or Filicophyte): the Polypode (Polypodium vulgare).
This cycle is characterised by the alternating haploid (gametophyte) and diploid (sporophyte) generations which are morphologically different. The diploid generation is predominant.
